Be the Light! 2010

By Carol Parrish

I am sharing some serious thought about what is happening to humanity now, as I believe it to be. Humanity is having a collective dark night of the soul experience.

The dark night of the soul of humanity is when humanity gets lost in the world of matter, and uses material resources without consideration of the spirit within matter. At times we hear about this happening to individuals, but we have rarely thought about this as an event of the collective. We can each make long lists of what is wrong with the global situation, but please continue to share thoughts with me.

I consider the planet to be having a near death experience. It is being threatened, and it takes the love and care of its people and their strength to find the answers to move out of this danger and go forward – to resuscitate the planetary life, we could say. The NDE is physical; the dark night of the soul is spiritual. Either can kill the planet. You can be part of the needed cure.

So in the same line of thinking, humanity is moving through the dark night of the soul. I am not speaking of the planet, but the collective of humanity. We have to deal with addictions, drug abuse (including medical drugs), issues of women and gender abuse, other kinds of sexual abuse, and the issue of rage, which is so violent that people attack one another and yell and scream on highways and streets.

These are all influences escaping from the lower astral world. When these kinds of energies break through and start engulfing the human collective we see troubling events occur, which threaten the entire world – similar to the events of World War II.

There is a darkness that is engulfing humanity and threatening all of us. A struggle is going on between the light and the dark in the human group mind. This is prevalent when the unconscious becomes so overloaded with doubts that fear takes over. We are each part of this battle. And this is for the soul of humankind.

Those of us who believe we are holding the light dare not be arrogant or feel smug about it. We must work with an understanding that the deepest part of ourselves is the most tender part, and that sometimes we are afraid to offer it to others. Yet we practice each day to be a bit more open than usual.

The safest way to begin living in the light is with private prayers, a visualization meditation, and some living out of the heart while taking a walk, brushing the dog, loving the person you care for, even talking more kindly on the telephone.

All these are acts of goodness, and all these acts are kind of like saying, “I’m saving a penny a day and soon my pennies will add up for something special.” If more of us give these “drops of goodness” to one another, collectively we bring in more light. We are making deposits to our karmic bank account, and this confronts the dark forces that are threatening humanity.

Spirit within and without stands ready to assist. Be the light!
